The Things I Want To Say But Can't by Carla Christian | Book Tour Review

Now this book is nothing like what I thought it would be whatsoever! From the cover, I thought the eye in the butterflies' wing would be her looking back on something monumental in her life that stayed with her, but not as deep as what it actually was.

A lifetime of endings, a million goodbyes. None of them right. It's funny what you remember when you've got nothing else to think about. All those things you should've said while you had the chance. You never learned, did you? You never, ever learned.

Belle has a habit of losing things. Her friends. Her lovers. Her mind.

Everything ends eventually, or at least that's what life has taught her. But what if everything she lost came back again? What if she got a chance to finally have her say? To face her past. To put things right.

Second chances aren't easy when memories are all you have. So, when Belle invites the nightmares of her past back in, is she willing to deal with the consequences? Because maybe, just maybe, this time she's getting what she deserves.

My Thoughts
From the very first chapter you knew something wasn't right, why was she so insecure, troubled and scared? Why was she worried about everything? What happened in her past that had led her to be like this?

Reading this book was intriguing as it's nothing like I've experienced before. The writer makes you think it's you that's causing the girl pain, you that's hurting her and you that is ignoring all of the signs she is giving off. It kind of makes you feel guilty as if it's your fault!

Throughout the book, you follow Belle on her journey of abuse and trying to do what's right for her and her kids. It really opens up your eyes to the abuse which people suffer every day!

We also see her celebrating Jame's (her son's) birthday and although their family don't get along I thought the whole scene played out nicely, you could picture the scene vividly as if you were there sat in the room with them!

I feel like this book should come with a trigger warning as it contains everything from abuse, eating disorders right through to depression and for some, this may be an uncomfortable read.

Meet The Author
Carla Christian lives in the Lake District in the North of England. A busy working mum of two teenagers, she has a passion for writing, art and travel, and these interests have been a part of her for as long as she can remember. Constantly inspired by both the good and the bad in the world around her, she spends much of her time creating in one way or another; be it painting canvases for the blank walls of her new home, sketching pictures to capture memories of the many travel adventures she's been lucky enough to go on, baking fantastical cakes with her daughter, or writing endless beginnings to a million unfinished stories. The Things I Want To Say But Can't is Carla's first novel.
